Year 4

Message from the Teacher

Assalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh.

I am Ustaadhah Safia and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Year 4 teacher. I have a vast amount of experience working with children of all ages in both a teaching role and in a mentoring role. I have graduated with a BSc in Psychology and am a passionate individual who strives for the best in her students. I look forward to continuing my work with the children. Please feel free to discuss any matters regarding your child’s progress and personal development.

TopicsLearning based on themes have been academically acclaimed and will continue this year as the students enjoy this so much. We will be looking into World War 2 and Tropical Rainforests. Please be aware the Tarbiyah Link will always be incorporated at all times so we can critically examine the Islamic perspectives.
CurriculumNumeracy:
We will be working with the new curriculum and will cover step by step approach to fractions, data manipulation and effective techniques for numerical calculations. Topics covered include Addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Also graph work, coordinates and measurement.

Literacy:
We will offer literacy daily this year as we know how important it is to this EAL school. We will offer a progressive system this year which will start simple to build up to complex use of the language. There will be plenty of opportunity to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing. I will also give coaching on handwriting too. Areas covered include Poetry, Journalistic accounts, narrative stories and Newspapers

Science:
Looks very stimulating this year. We will delve deeply into topics such as Animals, Electricity, Sound, living things (including their habitats) and States of matter. My planning will be centred on keeping activities as practical as possible.

Tarbiya and Tafseer:
This year I am thrilled to be able to offer the Quran and Sunnah through a storyboard approach. I pray presentations will be entertaining so as to inspire creativity and passion from the learner. Ameen. For Tafseer we will analyse and reflect on selected surahs from Juz Ammah.

Citizenship and SEAL:
Alhamdulillah, this year we are going to offer structured approach to social aspects of learning. We will examine how we interact with others and motivate ourselves. Reflective Topics include: New beginnings, Getting on and falling out, Going for goals, Good to be me, Relationship, Changes.

Art:
We will be linking this with the other themes and tarbiya to further enhance our skills in drawing, colouring, modelling and painting. We will even be planning to construct a model of the kaabah!

TripsTwo trips we are planning relate to the themes which we hope to cover… A trek into a local wood will help us better understand Rainforests and how trees and eco systems operate. Also a journey to the local museum will help us shed light on how our predecessors coped with difficult war scenarios.
P.E.We will cover a wider range of activities including swimming, football, cricket, dodgeball, tennis and martial arts. From my experience of working with a PE department we will look to develop key skills through focused coaching, introducing the sport progressively.
HomeworkI am a great believer that working independently at home is critical to develop the learner. It not only consolidates learning but ensures a hardworking ethos. I aim to give homework daily but not too much. We all know the hadith where we are advised the best of actions is that which is consistent even if it be little
