Year 6

Message from the Teacher

Assalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh.

I am Ustaadhah Safiyyah. I am the newest teacher at the moment, I am teaching year 6 this year Inshallah. I look forward to teach this year, I am putting all my effort on them so they pass they SATs Inshallah.

TopicsThis term we will be learning about the local area, Victorians, light, living things and their habitat.
CurriculumNumeracy:
Topics being covered include Place value, Decimals, Addition and Subtraction
Shape and angles, Fractions, Decimals and Measures.

Literacy:
Topics that will be covered are retelling of a legend with a focus on the amazing legend of Robin Hood. The legend will also be used for our journalistic writing.

Theme:
This term we will be learning about the local area and look at our own area and discover the similarities and differences between where we live and other intriguing locations around the world. We hope to learn about the Victorians focusing on the lifestyle of the rich and poor families.

Science:
This term we’ll be learning about light and identify sources of light and revise facts that light travels in straight lines and opaque objects form shadows. We also aim to learn about living things and their habitat.

Tafseer/Tarbiyah:
As we near the sacred month of Dhul Hijjah, students will be learning about the Fiqh of Hajj (pilgrimage). They’ll also learn about the manners of reciting the Quran.

SEAL/Citizenship:
We’ll study New Beginnings. This theme focuses on developing children’s knowledge, understanding and skills in four key social and emotional aspects of learning: empathy, self-awareness, social skills and motivation. We’ll also look at the theme of Getting on and falling out. This theme focuses on developing children’s knowledge, understanding and skills in three key social and emotional aspects of learning: empathy, managing feelings (with a focus on anger) and social skills.

TripsWe plan to go to the Science Museum and explore some ground-breaking developments in science. We also hope to visit the London Dungeon for a thrill-filled journey through London’s murky past.
P.E.Year 6 have PE on Thursday. Please ensure that they come to school with the correct equipment for PE. Students will be going for swimming lessons too, insha Allah, alternating every other week between the boys and the girls. We hope to work on a variety of skills such as balance, movement and much more.
HomeworkChildren are normally given homework packs every Friday and are expected to return the completed packs by the following week on Wednesday. Parents must ensure that their children complete all the homework.
