Assalamu Aleykum Parents and Carers,
As a school, we are committed to promoting and encouraging a love for reading in all our children. As you know, reading is fundamental to all areas of learning. A child who reads proficiently is more likely to excel across all subjects.
To address this, we are excited to announce a new initiative to enhance reading engagement across all key stages. This initiative will expose students to various reading materials, allowing them to explore and compare different authors’ writing styles and approaches to storytelling.
As part of this initiative, we are introducing the “Reading 20 Books Challenge”. This challenge will encourage students to read 20 books throughout the academic year. The books are selected from a recommended list aligned with the National Curriculum. These books are carefully chosen to both challenge and inspire children, helping them to develop a broader vocabulary and strengthen their reading skills. Students who complete the challenge will receive recognition and a special award from the school.
We understand that it may not be feasible for every family to purchase 20 books individually. Therefore, we kindly ask for a small contribution of £10 per family, allowing us to launch this initiative and provide all students access to the necessary resources.
We greatly appreciate your support and believe that, together, we can foster in our children a lifelong love of reading. I would also upload a list of recommended list of books for individual classes.
